The Kirk Session

For some time now The Session Clerk has been approached to put something on the Web Page, so, at last, here it is.

A Word from the Clerk

Briefly, Kirk Session consists of a number of members of the congregation who have agreed to be ordained as Elders within the Church of Scotland. Currently an Elder is ordained for life but (s) he is a member of Kirk Session by resolution of Kirk Session. The Minister is admitted to the Congregation by Presbytery as a result of a Call to that person by the Congregation and a vote of members of the Congregation. The Minister is then the Moderator (Chairperson) of Kirk Session and no meeting of Kirk Session may be held without the Minister, except in special cases.

Kirk Session then appoints a Clerk, who is responsible for the Church Books and should have them ready to present to Presbytery for scrutiny.
