Bo'ness singers Jimmy Scott and Ian Walker have chosen "Vangel" as a name for their duo because it sums up, in a word, what they want to express through their music. They found the word "Vangel" in the Scots/English dictionary. It means Gospel.
Ian and Jimmy make an intriguing combination! With over 80 years of music between them, neither can be described as "new kids on the block"! They first sang together as a duo at the Carberry Festival, East Lothian, Scotland in 1994. Since then, they have been singing up and down the country with their own particular blend of acoustic roots and Gospel music. You will find them singing at a wide variety of venues and occasions including church services, prisons, hospitals, nursing homes, schools, music/folk clubs, social evenings, women's guilds, men's groups, music festivals, community associations, fund raising events, outreaches, radio stations, concerts and shopping precincts! They usually sing as "Vangel" but they do also play in secular events under their own names.
Vangel can be contacted through St. Andrew's Church, Grange Terrace, Bo'ness, West Lothian Scotland.
Ian Walker
Ian was inspired by the music of the Glasgow folk scene in the 1960's and, since then, has developed a reputation as a songwriter and performer. He has four albums recorded (three with Fellside Recordings, Cumbria, England) and two songbooks published. His songs have been widely sung and recorded by other artists. He has also worked, at different times, with Glasgow singer/songwriter Ian Bruce and with the Lanarkshire based traditional Irish/Scottish band Setanta. In recent years Ian has worked with The New Makars Trust writing new songs in schools and with older people.
Jimmy Scott
Jimmy has been singing and playing his own distinctive brand of acoustic roots and Gospel music since the 1960's in a variety of line-ups but principally with his family group led by his father, the well-known and loved evangelist, Adam Scott. Jimmy has travelled throughout Britain and abroad bringing the Gospel message to a wide variety of venues including seamen's missions, prisons, churches and Czechoslovakia during the "Cold War"! In 2005, Jimmy was invited to support Nashville's George Hamilton IV on his Scottish Gospel Tour and, in 2006, once again Jimmy supported George Hamilton IV on George's 60 th Anniversary Country Music Tour in the UK.
